A. Lange & Söhne Extends 20-Year Partnership with Dresden State Art Collections
A. Lange & Söhne extends its 20-year partnership with Dresden State Art Collections to 2031, supporting museums, exhibitions, and educational initiatives.
A. Lange & Söhne is celebrating two decades of collaboration with the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) by extending their partnership for another five years, continuing a shared dedication to art, culture, and precision craftsmanship.
Since formally establishing the sponsorship in 2006, A. Lange & Söhne has supported SKD’s 15 museums, including the Grünes Gewölbe, the Gemäldegalerien Alte und Neue Meister, and the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments in the Zwinger.
The Royal Cabinet, home to historic clocks such as the Five-Minute Clock from Dresden’s Semper Opera House, has a particularly special connection with the brand: it inspired Ferdinand Adolph Lange in the 1830s and fueled his vision to create Glashütte’s finest timepieces.
The partnership has long extended beyond preservation. In 2013, A. Lange & Söhne sponsored the six-year restoration of the Royal Cabinet, strengthening the link between watchmaking and science.
Exhibitions like 2015’s Simple and Perfect. Saxony’s Path into the World of International Watchmaking highlighted this shared cultural mission, showcasing historical Lange pocket watches and educating visitors on Saxon precision.
The collaboration also promotes education and talent development through initiatives such as the Royal Cabinet’s “Lernort” learning centre, which introduces young people to technical and scientific principles in an engaging, hands-on environment.
Looking ahead to 2026, A. Lange & Söhne will support SKD exhibitions, including Paula Modersohn-Becker and Edvard Munch. The Big Questions of Life at the Albertinum and Japan on Paper in Dresden at the Kupferstich-Kabinett further cement its role as a patron of international cultural dialogue.
“Both institutions are dedicated to showcasing Saxon precision and a passion for excellence around the world,” said Dr. Bernd Ebert, Director General of the SKD. Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Söhne added, “Our partnership is about preserving and sharing cultural heritage with future generations, inspiring creativity and innovation along the way.”
