IWC Schaffhausen Redefines the Iconic Portugieser Chronograph with All-Black Ceratanium® Edition
IWC Schaffhausen launches the all-black Portugieser Chronograph Ceratanium®, featuring titanium-ceramic innovation, 69355 calibre, and limited to 1,500 pieces.
IWC Schaffhausen has unveiled a striking reinterpretation of one of its most iconic models with the launch of the Portugieser Chronograph Ceratanium®. This all-black version brings a bold, modern aesthetic to the Portugieser collection, combining classic design with advanced material innovation. Limited to just 1,500 pieces, the timepiece embodies IWC’s commitment to technical excellence and minimalist sophistication.
The 41-millimetre case, crown, and pushers are crafted from Ceratanium®, a proprietary material developed by IWC that merges the lightweight properties of titanium with the hardness and scratch-resistance of ceramic. The distinctive dark metallic finish extends across the case and functional elements, while a black dial, black appliques, and black hands create a cohesive, monolithic look. The black rubber strap with a subtle square pattern completes the seamless aesthetic, emphasizing the watch’s understated, modern elegance.
Since its debut in 1998, the Portugieser Chronograph has stood as a hallmark of sporty sophistication. Its design, defined by two vertically arranged subdials and a quarter-second scale on the inner flange, has made it instantly recognizable and a favorite among collectors. The Ceratanium® edition strips the chronograph to its essentials, highlighting its clean lines and pure silhouette, while reinforcing the timeless appeal that has defined the model for more than two decades.
Inside the watch, the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre powers the chronograph with precision and reliability. The movement features a column-wheel control mechanism for clearly defined, tactile chronograph operation and a double-pawl automatic winding system that ensures a 46-hour power reserve. Every component has been engineered with durability and performance in mind, making the Portugieser Chronograph Ceratanium® as functional as it is visually striking.
The new edition demonstrates IWC Schaffhausen’s ability to combine traditional watchmaking expertise with material innovation, resulting in a timepiece that is both contemporary and enduring. The all-black aesthetic, combined with the unique properties of Ceratanium®, delivers a bold, modern, and unmistakably IWC chronograph for those who appreciate both style and substance.
