TAG Heuer’s new Connected Calibre E5 marks ten years of the brand’s work in digital watchmaking. It continues a line that began in 2015, when the Swiss manufacturer brought mechanical discipline to wearable technology.

This fifth generation feels mature; not a gadget dressed as a watch, but a watch built with technology in mind.

The Calibre E5 keeps the brand’s clear design language while introducing better proportion and comfort. It comes in 45-millimetre and 40-millimetre cases, both with refined lugs, slimmer pushers and a more fluid silhouette.

The new interchangeable strap system fits neatly into the case, avoiding the gaps that often break a design’s continuity.

Case materials include polished stainless steel and black DLC-coated titanium for the larger model, and polished steel or rose-gold PVD for the smaller version. Each has a sapphire crystal and 50-metre water resistance.

The straps range from leather and rubber to metal and nylon, and the fastening systems vary between folding clasps and pin buckles.

The overall impression is one of precision rather than excess. Every surface has a purpose; nothing feels added for effect.

Inside, the Calibre E5 runs on TAG Heuer OS, software developed by the brand’s engineers in Switzerland. The interface is cleaner and quicker than before, with sharper graphics and clearer navigation.

The watch now supports voice calls, voice assistant access, and custom haptic feedback, all delivered through an improved speaker and microphone.

Battery performance is notably stronger: up to three days for the 45mm model and two days for the 40mm, with a day’s use available after half an hour of charging.

The watch connects faster than earlier versions and is now fully certified for iPhone, removing a long-standing barrier for many users.

The faces available for the display draw on TAG Heuer’s key collections, Carrera, Aquaracer, and Formula 1, offering a digital reflection of its mechanical world.

TAG Heuer has continued to expand its wellness features without losing focus on clarity. The Wellness Activity app tracks movement, calories and daily targets, presenting the data in an understated format.

The Heart Rate app provides continuous readings throughout the day, and a sleep-analysis update due later this year will include oxygen saturation, breathing rate and heart-rate variability.

The presentation is informative but restrained, designed for people who want insight rather than encouragement.

Running and golf remain at the centre of the Connected collection. The running functions now include structured plans and highly accurate dual-band GNSS tracking, giving reliable data in urban or forested areas.

Battery life in this mode reaches up to seventeen hours. The Golf Edition has a bezel engraved with hole numbers from one to eighteen and a strap with a texture that recalls a golf ball’s surface.

Its course maps cover more than 40,000 courses worldwide and include dynamic zooming and automatic scoring. Shot detection is faster and GPS positioning three times quicker than before.

Prices start at CHF 1,500 for the 40mm steel version and rise to CHF 2,300 for the titanium Golf Edition. Each model feels balanced, tactile and carefully judged.

TAG Heuer’s strength lies in the way it applies watchmaking logic to new materials and systems. The Connected Calibre E5 follows that tradition: a watch that combines digital precision with the assurance of Swiss craft.

It is modern in function, but its character comes from the same values that have guided the company since 1860: clarity, durability and an instinct for design that does not need to announce itself.
