Longines draws a clear line from the great age of aviation to the present day with the new Spirit Pilot and Spirit Pilot Flyback.

These are not stage props. They are flight-ready instruments with refined ergonomics, disciplined design and movements that meet the expectations of serious collectors.

The Spirit story began as a contemporary salute to the airmen and explorers who trusted Longines in demanding conditions. The latest references sharpen that idea with fewer distractions and more functions.

Surfaces are cleaner, legibility is heightened, and the engineering brief is firmly modern. That is how genuine tool watches earn confidence.

The three-hand Spirit Pilot is pared back to the essentials. The stainless steel case measures 39 millimetres and wears with easy balance. Its matt black dial is deliberately spare.

The date window and row of stars are removed, the minute track is crisper and the gold coloured hands and applied Arabic numerals provide high contrast in all light. It reads as purposeful with a discreet vintage note rather than nostalgia.

Power comes from the exclusive calibre L888.4. This self-winding movement uses a silicon balance spring and other advanced components to achieve strong resistance to magnetism, stated as ten times greater than the ISO 764 reference.

It offers a 72-hour power reserve and carries COSC chronometer certification. A new screw down case back underscores the functional approach.

Wearing options are considered and practical. Choose a stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp, a brown leather strap with a folding clasp or a textile style green rubber strap with a pin buckle. The bracelet and leather strap include micro adjustment for a precise fit throughout the day.

The Flyback sits at the centre of Longines' aviation history. The manufacture produced early flyback chronograph wristwatches in the 1930s and filed its patent in 1935.

The new model honours that milestone with a 39.5 millimetre stainless steel case that is 13.4 millimetres thick, giving the watch genuine everyday wearability.

Details serve the brief. A bidirectional rotating bezel uses an improved system and introduces a practical countdown scale to the line. A box-shaped sapphire crystal and a matt black dial set the instrument tone. Gold coloured hands and applied numerals with luminous material secure instant legibility.

Inside is the hand-wound calibre L792.4. It combines a column wheel chronograph with the flyback function for rapid consecutive timing, employs a silicon balance spring for enhanced resistance to magnetism, delivers a 68-hour power reserve and holds COSC certification.

A transparent screw down back presents the movement with restrained theatre. Bracelet and strap choices mirror the three-hand model, with micro-adjustable folding clasps for secure comfort.

Proportion has been carefully judged, so both watches sit low and balanced. Bracelets and straps are engineered with proper adjustment, which makes a tangible difference in daily wear.

Dials and cases show finishing discipline rather than drama, the correct reading of the pilot genre. The movements address modern expectations with silicon technology, extended power reserves and certified accuracy.

Longines also confirms that its automatic models across the collection use silicon technology and are supported by a five-year guarantee.

That assurance signals confidence in reliability and precision, qualities that define a true flight instrument and a serious manufacturer.

The new Spirit Pilot duo values clarity over noise. They are calm, capable and quietly luxurious on the wrist, shaped by long experience rather than fashion.
