Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222
Vacheron Constantin revives the iconic 222 with a new stainless steel “Jumbo” edition, honouring the bold 1977 design that reshaped luxury sports watches.
Few numbers carry as much weight in watchmaking as “222.” First introduced in 1977, the model quickly became one of the defining creations of Vacheron Constantin.
Nearly five decades later, the Maison revisits this landmark design with a new stainless steel “Jumbo” edition that celebrates the enduring appeal of the original.
Created to mark the brand’s 222nd anniversary, the historic model represented a turning point in the manufacture’s history. Designed by Jorg Hysek, the watch introduced a bold interpretation of the luxury sports watch, blending elegance with a distinctly modern aesthetic.
The design remains instantly recognisable. A monobloc tonneau-shaped case, fluted bezel and integrated bracelet create a sleek, streamlined profile that feels both sporty and refined. The Maltese cross emblem, placed at five o’clock, is a subtle signature of the brand, adding a distinctive detail, while a sapphire caseback now reveals the self-winding movement within.
This contemporary edition preserves the spirit of the 1970s original while adapting it to modern expectations. Slim proportions, precise finishing and an updated automatic calibre underline the brand’s dedication to both heritage and technical excellence.
For collectors and enthusiasts, the revival of the 222 is more than a nostalgic gesture. It reaffirms the importance of a watch that once expanded the design language of sports timepieces and continues to embody the balance between innovation and tradition that defines Vacheron Constantin today.
